Youth, This Is Your Shot: Christmas on Main Street Wants YOU On Stage

Megan Wooten, event coordinator for Visit Andrews, has a problem.

A good problem, sure. But a problem nonetheless.

She’s planning this year's Christmas on Main Street event and they need more youth. Specifically, they need more youth willing to perform for the crowd.

"More children entertainers is my goal," Wooten said.

Now, before you think this is some high-pressure, American Idol-style audition situation...it's not.

Wooten's vision is to give local youth a chance to perform in front of their community, build some confidence, and maybe — just maybe — discover something about themselves in the process.

"We want to encourage youth to be on stage, be in front of people, boost their confidence, perhaps help them discover who they are or what they like to do," she explained.

So what are they looking for?

Pretty much anything Christmas-related and family-friendly.

Taking piano lessons? They want you.

In a dance class? Perfect.

Can you read aloud without passing out? Great — they need Christmas story readers.

Here's the full list:

  • Solo singers and musicians (any instrument counts)

  • Victorian carolers

  • Bell ringers — solo or as part of a bell choir

  • Dance groups of any style

  • Young people who can read Christmas stories

  • Youth choirs

  • Basically any other family-friendly Christmas performance you can dream up

All experience levels are welcome.

You don't have to be a prodigy. You just have to show up and give it a shot.

If you've got a child, youth group, church group, school group, or any other group that wants to participate, just shoot an email to [email protected].

Whether you live in Andrews full time or travel into town just for work and fun, your voice matters, and now's your chance to make it heard.

Andrews is putting together a 5-Year Strategic Economic Development Plan, and town officials need input from the community to make it happen.

Think of this as an opportunity to have a real say in what Andrews looks like in the future.

What kind of businesses would you like to see downtown? What would make life better for families in the area? How can the community become even stronger? These are the kinds of questions town leaders are asking.

The town has partnered with the North Carolina Department of Commerce's Main Street and Rural Planning Center to ensure the planning process is thorough and effective. Together, they're reaching out to everyone—residents, business owners, workers, visitors—anyone who has a stake in Andrews' future.

Community feedback will directly influence the priorities set for supporting local businesses, enhancing quality of life, and building a stronger, more vibrant town. Whether you have lived here your whole life or just moved to the area, your perspective is valuable to the planning process.

Take just a few minutes to complete the anonymous community survey. It's quick, easy, and completely confidential. Simply scan the QR code or click the image above, and you'll be taken straight to the survey.
